Privacy Policy
Last updated:
Mathamphetamines is a free, in-browser math game. We take a minimum-data approach: most of your progress lives in your own browser, not on our servers. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
What information we collect
Stored on your device only
The site uses your browser's localStorage to remember your progress: your HITS balance, game high scores, inventory, equipped gear, home base, quest progress, and your account profile (username + a salted hash of your password). This data lives in your browser. We do not see it, transmit it, or store it on any server we control. Clearing your browser data removes all of it.
Information you provide
If you create an account, you choose a username and password. Your password is hashed with SHA-256 + a per-user random salt before being saved to your browser's localStorage. We never see your raw password. We do not require or ask for an email address.
Information collected automatically
Our hosting provider (currently Netlify) may log standard request information — IP address, browser type, referring page, pages visited — for operational purposes such as preventing abuse and measuring traffic. We do not combine this with personal information.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use the following categories of storage:
- Essential / functional storage — localStorage entries that hold your game progress and profile. The site cannot work without these.
- Advertising cookies (optional) — if you accept them via our consent banner, we may load Google AdSense or similar networks. These services use cookies to show relevant ads and measure performance. You can change your choice anytime by clicking the "Cookie settings" link in the footer.
- Analytics (optional) — we may add lightweight analytics in the future to understand how the site is used. We will update this page and ask for consent before doing so.
Third-party services
- Google Fonts — we load fonts (Bebas Neue, Space Mono, Caveat) from Google. Loading a font causes your browser to make a request to Google's servers, which receive your IP address as part of that request.
- Google AdSense (or equivalent) — if enabled and you have consented, these networks may set cookies and use device identifiers to serve and measure ads. Read Google's policy at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
-
Google Ads / gtag.js — we load Google's tag library
(
googletagmanager.com) for conversion measurement. The tag receives standard browser information (page URL, referrer, IP address, user agent) and may set cookies for attribution. You can opt out of personalized ads through your Google Ad Settings or block the tag with most major content blockers. - Hosting (Netlify) — Netlify processes routine HTTP request logs as described in their privacy policy.
How we use information
Information on your device is used solely to power the game features (saving your progress, showing your stats, running the shop). Server-side request logs are used to keep the site running, prevent abuse, and improve performance. We do not sell your information.
Children's privacy
Mathamphetamines is intended for users 13 years of age or older. The site name and certain narrative elements use tongue-in-cheek "underground" theming and are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided information through the site, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it. Parents who want a kid-friendly version of these games can use our sister site, Math Quest (a re-themed educational variant of the same engine).
Your rights and choices
- Delete your data: open your browser settings and clear site data for this domain. This wipes all locally stored game progress and accounts.
- Withdraw consent for ads: click "Cookie settings" in the footer at any time and choose Reject.
- Right to access / correct: because we don't hold your data on a server, exporting or correcting it means viewing/clearing your own browser's storage. Your browser's DevTools → Application → Local Storage shows everything we save.
Data security
The site is delivered over HTTPS. Account passwords are hashed (SHA-256 with a random per-user salt) before being saved in localStorage. We can't read your raw password and neither can anyone else inspecting your browser data. That said, localStorage is not a secure vault — anyone with physical access to your unlocked device can read it. Don't reuse passwords from important accounts on Mathamphetamines.
International users
The site is hosted in the United States. By using it, you understand that any information processed (such as the request logs noted above) may be processed in the US. If you're in the EU/UK and prefer not to load ad cookies, click Reject on the consent banner.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. Material changes will be noted at the top of this page. The "Last updated" date above tells you the most recent revision.
